Overview

A small demountable pavilion for an arts foundation, built from translucent panels that glow after dark.

The brief

The foundation needed a moveable structure that could host events across several sites and read as a landmark at night without a large budget or permanent foundations.

Our approach

We designed a lightweight timber frame clad in translucent polycarbonate, detailed so it can be assembled by four people in a day and lit from within to become a lantern each evening.

The outcome

The pavilion has travelled to five locations and drawn thousands of visitors, and its low-cost, reusable approach was widely published as a model for temporary civic space.
