Overview
A framework for a new mixed-use quarter, designed so the public spaces between buildings lead the way.
The brief
A former industrial site was slated for dense housing, but earlier proposals had left the ground floors dead and the streets between blocks left over and unloved.
Our approach
We designed the streets, squares, and green links first and fitted the buildings around them, setting rules for active frontages, human scale, and daylight that every future plot must follow.
The outcome
The framework was adopted by the council and its first phase is under construction, with ground-floor uses let ahead of schedule — a sign the public realm is doing its job.
